Methyl tert-butyl ether
1.Physical & chemial characteristics
Methyl tert-butyl ether is also called 2-Methl-2-methoxy propance and in English that is called MTBE for short is a sort of colorless, transparent, and volatilizable liquid. Its formular structure is CH3OC(CH3)3. The solid point is -108.6℃, and index of reflection is 1.3694. Flash point(close) is 28℃ and automatic combustion point. Explosion limit is 1.65-8.4% and viscosity(20℃) is 0.36Mpa.s. It can be resolved in water and has strong oxidation resistance.
2.Main applications
It is mainly used in leadless high knock rating gasoline additive and to get high purity isobutene through catalytic cracking.
3.Safety precautions
Dangerous characteristics: It is inflammable, and th vapour will form explosion mixture with air; and touching with oxidant agent or in fire and high temperature will react actively and explosion. Endangerment to health: The vapour of the product will irritate eyes, mucous membrane and upper respiratory tract irritation , which will cause pulmonitis. It has anesthesia effect and irritant activity.
4.Package, storage and transportation
Package, trade mark, storage and transportation of the products is in compliance with SH0164.
